More pictures!
These are the pictures I took when we went to the Castillo de Santa Barbara. We had to trek for like.. an hour to get to this place. Its like a mountain with a castle on top that overlooks Alicante.

Well, this semester should be interesting...
Hello United States! So its been a long few days let me tell you. I arrived at JFK at 12:00, couldn't check my bags until 2:30 and then my flight wasn't until 9:00. Then, I took the 8 hour flight to Madrid at 10:00 am and had to wait until 6:20 pm for my flight to Alicante. However, my flight from Madrid to Alicante was constantly delayed and we didn't end up leaving until around 9:00 pm. Awesome. Luckily, I got WiFi for about 10 minutes in the Madrid airport; just enough time to contact people from my program who were on my flight to meet up so I didn't have to sit there the entire time alone. The flight from JFK was mostly in Spanish (because it was a Spanish airline), and the flight from Madrid was completely in Spanish. I admit I was a little rusty at first, however, by the time I left Madrid I had perfected the 'Hola' and 'Lo siento'.
Once we finally got to Alicante, we immediately met with our program directors and they took us out to dinner for 'tapas', which are basically a bunch or appetizers or smaller meals. By the time we finished it was like 12:30 so we just went to bed. The next day, they took us throughout the city most of the day so we were able to see everything. Let me just say, Alicante is awesome. The weather is around 65 during the day and only gets to around 40 degrees at night.
The next day, after we had to sit through meetings about like Spanish culture, safety, health.. nothing important, we finally met our host families. I live with a mother, father, and a son, however, the son only comes home on the weekend because his school is 50 miles away ( which took me.. oh like 30 minutes to understand what they were saying with that). But anyways, I literally just had my first dinner with the family and let me say.. I impressed myself. I somehow was able to have dinner for around an hour talking about politics in the united states, Obama, Ron paul, and Romney entirely in Spanish. If that's not impressive I'm not really sure what is! But in a nut shell, that's basically all I've done since I got here. I haven't really taken any pictures to upload yet (besides the meal they gave me on my overnight flight from JFK to Madrid) but as soon as everything slows down I'll take some and then upload them on here.
